On March 7, 2019, the annual Latvian construction industry event “Latvian Construction Awards 2018” was held, which gathered together state and municipal representatives, business executives, architects, real estate developers and diplomats.

At the competition “Latvian Construction Awards 2018”, in the nomination “Production and Logistics Centers”, 1st place was awarded to “Amalva Baltija” KOMFOVENT factory building at Bukaišu iela 1, Riga.

The new production and administration center was specially designed for KOMFOVENT needs. More than 100 employees have settled here. Total area occupied – 7300 m2, of which 6300 m2 are production premises. Construction work began at the end of 2016 and was completed at the end of summer, 2018.

This is the largest building evaluation competition in Latvia. Total of 143 applications were submitted to 10 different nominations. About 450 people attended the final ceremony.

The competition is organized in cooperation with state institutions and main non-governmental organizations, as well as professional editions “Latvian Architecture” and “Latvian Construction”. The mission of the competition is to promote safe, innovative, high-quality, aesthetical buildings created in the Republic of Latvia or beyond.

Comment by organizers and jury, why the KOMFOVENT factory building was ranked as 1st in its nomination:

“The highest rating was awarded through the modern and qualitative architectural solution and performance of the building, which included the use of innovative materials, perfect facade system arrangement and the rich introduction of daylight into office space.

The constructive solution of the building also did not go unnoticed: high quality, using many non-standard solutions to achieve the goal of making the building energy consumption as efficient as possible and bringing it into service with almost zero energy consumption. Recuperation system with heat recovery was used, a heat pump and etc.

When evaluating all the solutions, it was recognized that the industrial premises are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

We recommend to present the building in another competition, “Sustainable Building Project 2019”, which will take place in Latvia for the 7th time. We think that the building is competitive and deserves wider recognition as an example of good practice.”
